INGREDIENTS:
2 large seedless navel oranges
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 cup milk chocolate chips
METHOD:
- Wash the oranges thoroughly and slice them into thin rounds, about half a centimetre thick.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Carefully add the orange slices to the sugar syrup, making sure they are in a single layer. Simmer the oranges in the syrup for about 45-60 minutes, or until the peels become translucent. Be careful not to let the syrup boil vigorously as this can cause the slices to break apart.
- Once the orange slices are candied, remove them from the syrup using a fork or slotted spoon, and place them on a wire rack to cool and dry for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
- In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the milk chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and completely melted.
- Dip half of each candied orange slice into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the dipped slices on a lined baking sheet.
- Let the chocolate set at room temperature or place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to speed up the process.
- Once the chocolate is set, your slices are ready to be enjoyed! Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
This will make roughly 15-20 slices, dependent on the size of your oranges.
